Wedding Series Pt. 2: Planning a Pittsburgh Wedding

Hello lovely people! First of all, Happy Friday! When you're reading this, I'm probably furiously packing and getting ready for a fun weekend trip to Nashville! Do you have any activity or restaurant recommendations? Let me know!

Today I wanted to talk about the next round of vendors that we booked for the wedding.  In my first post, I filled you in on the vendors that we booked immediately after we got engaged.  In this post, I wanted to share with you the vendors that we booked over the course of the following year.. Once again, thanks to Shayne's sage advice, we absolutely loved each of these vendors, and would recommend to anyone planning a wedding in the 'burgh.  Let's get into it - today we're talking Caterer, Flowers, Hair and Makeup, Linens, Cake, Bridesmaids dresses, and Invitations,!

Caterer - Opening Night: We decided to forgo a plated dinner, and instead go for buffet-style, so that everyone could pick out exactly what they wanted and also just relax the vibe a little bit.  I liked that we were able to have a lot of different options within the buffet - we had a chicken option, a beef option, and a vegetarian option.  Everything was delicious and the service and coordination throughout the night was also impeccable (especially for a venue where you have to bring all of your cooking supplies in-house!)  And I also wanted to give a special shout-out to my mom (seriously mom, I think you made like 400 cookies <3), grandma, mother-in-law, bridesmaids, and everyone who contributed cookies for the Pittsburgh cookie table tradition.  I wish I could have tried them all!

Flowers - Sapphire and Lace: You know how they say you should figure out which aspects of your wedding are non-negotiable, and which parts you don't really care? Well, I LOVE peonies and was really hoping that they would be in season for the wedding.  I really lucked out because they WERE in season, and Sapphire and Lace was able to run with designing the bouquets, groomsmen corsages, and centerpieces with limited detailed instructions from me.  I loved the color pallete we ended up with (the blue coordinated so well with the bridesmaids dresses) and also especially loved all of the greenery in the bouquets and centerpieces.  I wish my bouquet lasted forever! Would highly recommend S&L if you are in the Pittsburgh area!

Hair and Makeup - Marissa Julin: Marissa was an absolute pleasure to work with from my initial trial, to my wedding day. I initially met Marissa for my makeup trial.  I was nervous for the trial as I had visions of looking overdone, but Marissa did a wonderful job and I was so pleased with the outcome of both my hair and makeup.

On the day of the wedding, Marissa and her assistant Rhonda were prompt in arriving to my hotel suite where the bridal party was getting ready. Marissa’s bubbly and easygoing personality made everyone feel at ease throughout the morning, and the makeup/hair she did on each of my bridesmaids was stunning (I had multiple guests compliment me on how beautiful everyone looked while still being natural and looking like themselves.) She was so efficient while maintaining such attention to detail! I changed a couple things about my makeup from my trial to the wedding and Marissa executed them perfectly (specifically airbrush makeup – highly recommend!) She was so attentive in touching up (and hairspraying!) until we left for the church. Marissa made a potentially stressful process seamless from start to finish, and I can’t recommend her enough if you are looking for a hair/makeup artist in the Pittsburgh area!

Linens - Linen Hero: We used Linen Hero for these beautiful Champagne linens and also the tables/chairs in our venue.  They were timely, reasonably priced, and just did the job! There's just not too much I can say about linens :) Would recommend as well!

Cake - Lincoln Bakery & Gluuteny: Just like the flowers, our cake was really important to me (linens, not so much, cake, YES!) and my husband is strictly dairy free.  So we compromised and ordered two cakes.  Twist my arm :) My cake was from Lincoln bakery, and I cannot recommend them enough if you are in the Pittsburgh area.  It was soooo good, especially if you like a light texture and sugary buttercream frosting.  We were able to put some flowers on top of the simple design which fit our wedding perfectly.   For Dan's cake, we ordered a small cake from Gluuteny (also in the Pittsburgh area) that was gluten free and dairy free!  Both were delicious, and I enjoyed them that night (and maybe also the next night for dinner, whoops!)

Bridesmaid Dresses - BHLDN: My bridesmaids' dresses were from BHLDN, and I was sooo happy with the style and the color.  BHLDN was luckily having a sale on prior season dresses, because this french blue color wasn't part of the 2017 summer collection.  I took a leap of faith and went for these dresses (which was kind of scary, not going to lie), but I absolutely loved them.  I think from what I heard that my bridesmaids did too!  The texture of the fabric, french blue color, and backs on these dresses were what made them stand out to me.  I also ordered my veil from BHLDN!  I'll talk about shopping for my dress and wedding day look in a separate post :)

Invitations - Minted:  We ordered our save the dates and invitations from Minted.  I loved the process and picking out the design - it was so quick and easy, and they also added complimentary addressing to the invitations which was a HUGE timesaver.  I would highly recommend!

Well my lovely friends, that's it for today! In future posts I'm going to be sharing more details on my wedding dress, the rehearsal dinner, and big day!

Sending love your way,

Meg
