My morning routine.
Hi friends! I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and are staying warm. I can’t believe it’s February already…although when I think about it, January felt like a REALLY long month. I have a couple of exciting things coming up for the podcast in the next couple of months, and between that, blogging, and working my 9-5, sometimes it can feel like a LOT. Anyone relate? However, I find that if I stick to my morning routine before work, I get my “me” time in before the day even starts, and begin the day on the right foot. I’m always SUPER curious about other people’s morning routines (it’s one of my favorite questions on the podcast). I thought that today I’d tell you about my morning routine! Keep in mind this doesn’t happen every single morning, but in an ideal world, this is how I love to kickstart my day.
5:30 AM: Alarm goes off (some mornings this is at 5:45, which somehow feels much more reasonable in my head). This truly NEVER gets easier for me…even when I make a point to be lights out at 9:30 the night before. My trick to get into the early morning routine is to allow myself a couple of minutes to wake up while still lying in bed, and to turn on the light. I use this time to take my temperature (FAM, anyone?), log it in my app, and do a quick check on socials. Dan usually has zero problem waking up in the morning, so he’s a great motivator when I need it :).
5:35 AM: Change into workout clothes, grab headphones, keys, and fill up my water. Head downstairs to the gym in our apartment.
5:45 - 6:00 AM: Warm up for my workout. Lately I’ve been loving Kayla Itsine’s Bikini Body Guide, Fitness Blender strength training, doing sprints on the treadmill (never more than 10 minutes of sprints with jogging / walking interspersed). Ideally I’ve chosen a workout the night before based on how I’m feeling, but sometimes I will use the 10 minutes I warm up to decide what I’m up for. Some mornings Dan works out with me as well, which is always motivating a nice switch-up from my solo routine.
6:00 AM - 6:40 AM: Work out and make sure to get in a quick stretch afterwards. When I finish, I head back upstairs to get ready for the day.
6:40 AM - 6:50 AM: Pack my lunch and bag for the day. If I had a productive weekend, these will already be ready to go in the fridge, but sometimes I’m making it in the morning. I keep snacks at work, so this is only my lunch that needs to go. I also make a quick cup of mint tea to start my day with the calming digestive benefits.
6:50 - 7:00 AM: Brush my teeth & shower. The key to having a quicker routine in the AM is whether or not I’m washing my hair (which is every other day, unless I had a crazy sweaty workout). I do my skincare routine and also put on some body lotion, brush my hair, and put on cozy clothes to finish getting ready. I also towel dry my hair if needed.
7:00AM - 7:15AM: Put on makeup while listening to a podast. I’ve been loving listening to our episodes on Detox & Chill, as well as true crime pods like Cold, My Favorite Murder, and I also love catching up on Almost 30.
7:15AM-7:20AM: Dry my hair. I have relatively fine hair, but the Harry Josh travel hairdryer has truly made drying my hair so quick and easy.
7:20AM - 7:30AM: Unless I’m absolutely starving, I wait to eat breakfast until I get to work. I’ll take these 10 minutes to catch up on any social posting I need to do, meditate, or pull a quick tarot card.
7:30AM - 7:45AM: Walk to the T stop. I like to take the long way to get in a little extra natural movement for the day.
7:45 - 8:15ish: Ride the T to work, hop off, and walk into the office. Ready to start my work day!
This routine definitely gets pushed back 15-30 minutes or so on the days that I can’t bring myself to wake up at the 5:30AM time, but this is my ideal schedule during the week. I feel so accomplished by the time I get into work (and usually a rush of endorphins) which makes starting the day so much easier.
