Eco-Beauty Spotlight: Indie Lee
Well well well my friends - this week was a HUGE week! Between podcasting // event planning and FINALLY getting my global entry interview checked off of the list…we officially closed on a condo in Cambridge! We are so excited…and everything about this process has made it feel like it’s totally meant to be. So, you can expect a lot of before // after posts coming up on decorating and renovating. Dan and I are NOT the handiest people in the world, so this will be a complete learning experience. I’m working on being open and accepting everything we will need to learn and do for the new place! But, for now, we are popping some champagne and celebrating!
With all of that being said, this week I’m back with an AMAZING brand that I’ve been loving and trying for a while now…Indie Lee! Her story is absolutely incredible, and I wanted to first share that below…
Then, everything changed: I had been having some headaches, my peripheral vision was starting to be affected on my left side, I was in menopause at 36, and I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in July. What the heck was going on with me?
On November 4, 2008, I had an MRI. The results came back and I found myself diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. After speaking with numerous specialists, I was told I could have as little as six months to live.
When I went to my doctor and asked how this was even possible, he pointed out it could be environmental. “What? I eat organic and grow produce in my own greenhouse for God’s sake!” I replied. That’s when he asked me my life changing question: “What do you put on your skin?”
The truth was I had no idea what I was putting on my skin - but it was the aha moment - my awakening. I had found my purpose; I knew if I survived this surgery (which the odds were against), my legacy would be to create change and empower others to live their healthiest life.
When I woke up from surgery on April 22, 2009 (also Earth Day, which I took as a good sign), I was able to see completely out of my eye. The surgeon took my hand and said “We were able to get everything. Welcome to the rest of your life.
So readers, that is where the inspiration and the drive to create a platform for Indie Lee was born. This brand is about empowerment, education and healthy living; creating a community of like minded individuals on the same journey of change.
With a story and mission like that, I feel SO strongly about these products and the need to share them with you! Check out the four products I’ve been trying and my thoughts below.
** Some of these products were gifted, but I received no compensation for this post. I genuinely LOVE these products!**
Brightening Cleanser: I LOVE this product. I’ve purchase a couple of travel size versions of this product. It smells beautiful (like strawberries) and lathers like a conventional cleanser would. It’s the one I love to use right after workouts because I feel like it genuinely cleans my skin. It has the following amazing ingredients: strawberry Seed Oil, hydrolyzed Wheat Protein and Tomato extracts to help strengthen, firm and protect, leaving the skin hydrated, silky and luminous.
Blemish Lotion: So with all of the life things happening, my skin has totally been breaking out. I think it also has to do with commuting in the winter, and hats//big coats rubbing on my skin. This blemish lotion reminds me a lot of the Mario Badescu I used to use back in the day. Colloidal Sulfur and Salicylic Acid work in synergy to draw out impurities, reduce appearance of excess oil and clarify, while Zinc Oxide soothes and calms the skin. I apply this with a Q-tip before bed.
Daily Skin Nutrition: I do think that this is more of a summertime moisturizer for me, but I love how simple this lotion is. I find I sometimes I have trouble with moisturizers when they try to do too much - but this one keeps it to the basics in the best way possible. This product has a reparative blend of Sugar Cane derived Squalane, Rosehip Seed, Olive and Avocado oils. Conditioning Vitamin E and Rosemary Leaf extracts help protect against environmental stressors while Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C leave skin looking plump, bright and more even toned.
Vitamin Infusion: This just might be my favorite product of the bunch. This Ceramide-enriched daily facial oil will soothe and brighten complexion. This rich blend of oils help rejuvenate skin while Vitamin C promotes a more even skin tone. After I apply it, my skin definitely looks more plump and juicy. Would highly recommend!
Well, there you have it! I’d love to know if you’ve ever tried anything from Indie Lee, and what you’d personally love to try in the future!
